How to get a Google Chat webhook URL

If you want your bgp tools alerts to be automatically posted in your google chat room/space, you will need to configure a webhook URL for that google chat space.

First you will need to go into the google chat web interface (https://chat.google.com), and bring up the room/space directly (you may need to click on the room on the sidebar to get the needed view up)

When you have done that you need to be up to click the little arrow/notch next to the name:

Inside this menu you want to go look for the apps and integrations, and click it:

Inside this interface should be a sub menu for web hooks, you should press “Add webhooks”

A dialog box for what you want the webhook to be called on the google chat side will appear, you can put anything you want in here, but bgp.tools in those cases will be self descriptive enough to other users

Once that has been saved, you should now be able to see the web hook item at the bottom of the previous setting menu, you should then click on the options (the triple dots) and press “Copy Link”

You can then put this URL that is in your clipboard into bgp.tools.

To verify that the whole process has worked correctly bgp.tools will send a test notification that you should receive in the room once you add it.
